The Scout Motto is Be Prepared
Scouts learn through participating in activities and playing games both indoors and outdoors, and facing new challenges where the Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader teach the other members of their Patrol under the supervision of The Scout Leaders.
Scouts typically meet for two hours each week during school terms.
They learn the skills of management and leadership of the team "Their Patrol". They learn the ethics and beliefs of their team members, and the skills to use these for the good of the team.
They participate in weekend camps both as an Unit and as a Patrol, more adventurous and challenging activities, and meeting with other Scout Units. They get the opportunity to attend a National Jamboree, meeting Scouts not only from across Australia, but also from other countries.
Their achievements are recognised by the awarding of badges, which culminates in them reaching their peak award of The Australian Scout Award.
Leadership, respect and self discipline are utilised with active running of the opening and closing ceremonies.
A young girl or boy can join as a Scout after they turn ten and a half.
A Scout advances to Venturer Scouts through a "Going Up" ceremony, after they turn fourteen and before their fifteenth birthday.
