The Venturer Scout Motto is Look Wide
Venturer Scouts learn through participating in activities both adventurous and social, indoors and outdoors, and facing new challenges as they approach adulthood under the advice from The Venturer Scout Leaders.
Venturer Scouts typically meet for two hours each week during school terms, and often meet during school breaks.
They learn further skills of management and leadership of the whole Unit, taking on responsibilities for finance, organisation and coordination of their activities. They further explore the ethics and beliefs of their Unit members, and compare these with their own morals and understandings as well as those of the broader community.
They participate in weekend journeys and camps in small adhoc groups, with more adventurous and challenging activities, and meeting with other Venturer Scout Units. They get the opportunity to attend a National or State Venture, meeting Venturer Scouts not only from across Australia, but also from other countries. They can also travel further afield to participate in International Ventures and World Jamborees.
Their achievements are recognised by the awarding of badges, which culminates in them reaching their peak award of The Queen's Scout Award.
Leadership, respect and self discipline are utilised in the running of Unit Council meetings as well as District, Zone and State Youth Council meetings.
A teenage girl or boy can join as a Venturer Scout after they turn fourteen.
A Venturer Scout advances to Rover Scouts through a "Going Up" ceremony, after their eighteenth birthday.
